Welcome to the online portfolio of paintings by Paul Hegerty. Here, life as we see it is re-presented as an allegory of itself. Aesthetically satisfying and intellectually stimulating, these works invite you to reconnect with the world you live in. Enjoy.
Paul is based in Brisbane, Australia. He has conducted solo exhibitions and provides works for other art shows.
For Paul, art is an exploration of life that invites us to pause and reconnect with part of our story. In his work he invites people to reflect and engage in that part of their experience that the artwork speaks to. In this sense, his work offers itself as a catalyst to help the viewers remember something deeper in themselves.
Art is not produced in an instant but often expresses a moment. This drawing out of a place, feeling or idea enables the artist to explore life in the way that its cascading flow of moments inhibits. As such, the painted picture is still important in the modern world, as it creates a place where the moment is expanded by the artist which invites the viewers in turn to pause, expand and explore the moment in their lives. He sometimes wonders if his resulting work is a little too grim.
Paul primarily paints with acrylics. This is a modern medium that can combine various forms of construction, from washes to thick application. Working in a sub-tropical climate it also enables Paul to move quickly through layers while the idea is fresh, building up micro thin layers to create the desired effect.
Paul has a long history of working closely with groups of people in communities and organisations, giving him a strong sense of the existential challenges people face in their lives. With a liberal arts education he also brings a sense of history and philosophy to his work. His artistic expression has combined over the years painting, photography and music. He has a family that enjoy his endeavours, for which he is appreciative.
